THE PURPOSE OF CEREMONY

Ceremony Gives Form to What Matters.

People use ceremony to recognize commitments, welcome change, remember those who have died, mark personal thresholds and bring meaning to important moments.

A well-designed ceremony is more than a collection of readings or symbolic gestures. It requires careful listening, intentional structure, appropriate language, consent, cultural awareness and the ability to facilitate an emotionally meaningful experience without making the ceremony about the facilitator.

Ceremony and Ritual Facilitation provides a practical foundation for creating experiences that reflect the people, relationships, beliefs and transitions being honoured.

Education First.
Authorization by Separate Application.

This course is informed by the Love Doula® approach to personalized, meaningful and inclusive ceremony.

Completion provides ceremony education and a Unity Institute Certificate of Completion. It does not automatically confer Love Doula® authorization, Love Doula Network membership, directory registration, booking referrals or permission to use protected Love Doula® marks.

Learners interested in representing Love Doula® or joining the Love Doula Network may apply separately after completing the applicable education requirements. Acceptance is subject to the current application, conduct, portfolio, insurance and authorization requirements.

Ceremony Facilitation and Legal Solemnization Are Different Functions.

Many meaningful ceremonies do not require legal authority. Memorials, blessings, vow renewals, commitment ceremonies, welcoming ceremonies and personal rituals may generally be facilitated without solemnizing a legal marriage, subject to local law.

Legally solemnizing a marriage requires the authority recognized in the jurisdiction where the marriage occurs. This course does not provide ordination, ministry appointment, government registration or legal wedding-officiant authority.

Learners who already hold legal or ministry authority may integrate the ceremony education into their existing role. Others may pursue an appropriate lawful officiant or ministry pathway separately.
